Sandboxes

A sandbox is a small Ubuntu environment (24.04 or 26.04): 1, 2 or 4 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM, 10 GB of disk, CPU only, SSH optional. Created in seconds and billed per second. Idle for the idle timeout (300 s by default) it pauses on its own: the disk is kept, the meter drops to the paused price, it resumes in seconds. An optional delete timeout removes it for good. No enclave, not confidential: need the data sealed from the operator? Use a Confidential VM (Intel TDX, attestation you verify yourself).

Lifecycle

  1. Create: template, image, name, idle timeout (300 s by default), optional delete timeout, optional SSH keys. Up in seconds; billing starts at the running price.
  2. Use: over SSH if you attached a key, or through the API. Every second is billed at the running price.
  3. Pause: after the idle timeout (no command, no connection), or on request. The disk stays, the meter drops to the paused price.
  4. Resume: in seconds, where you left it. Or delete, yourself or by the delete timeout: the disk is destroyed and billing stops entirely.

From the dashboard

voltagegpu.com/sandboxes/new: the creation form (name, size, image, timers, SSH key) and the list of your sandboxes with their state (running, paused, stopped), current rate and cost so far, with Pause, Resume and Delete on each row.

From the API (as of 2026-10-24)

Your API key in the X-API-Key header. Errors answer {"error", "code"} with BALANCE_TOO_LOW, SOLD_OUT, NOT_ELIGIBLE or FEATURE_DISABLED; nothing is charged on an error.

Use cases

  • Code execution for agents: give an LLM a real shell and filesystem, one sandbox per task, delete it after.
  • CI and test runners: a clean Ubuntu per job, paused between jobs so an idle runner costs almost nothing.
  • Scratch boxes: try a package, a script or a build without touching your laptop; let the delete timeout clean up.

Billing

  • Per second from your prepaid balance, no prepaid hour: nothing is charged until the sandbox exists.
  • Running price while it runs, paused price while it is paused, nothing once deleted.
  • Sandboxes are paused, then deleted, if your balance reaches zero (as of 2026-10-24).
